The annual Gandhi Walk in Lenasia has become an iconic fun-walk event on the Joburg and Lenasia
social calendars and besides the thousands that turn up to walk it each year, it is known to attract
many dignitaries, celebrities, government officials, SA-brand ambassadors and several beauty title
holders so don’t be too surprised if you find yourself chatting and walking next to any one of them
at this Walk!
The Gandhi Walk Committee is ecstatic that it will be going green for 2018 with several steps already
being taken and actions being planned to turn this one into Joburg’s greenest-walk, says Gandhi Walk
Chairman, Amit Parbhucharan.
According to Parbhucharan, the Gandhi Walk Committee aims to champion social change and promote community
awareness to Going Green by launching its
#GandhiWalkREWOW campaign which will see the 33rd Gandhi Walk emphasizing “green” aspects relating
to
Recycling,
Energy,
Waste,
Oxygen and
Water. It wants to encourage its walkers and the community at-large - especially the youth -
to change attitudes and behaviours towards climate change and greener-living by embracing those famous
words of Mahatma Gandhi:
“Be the change you want to see in the world”
In addition, the Gandhi Walk Committee will be hosting a green-expo, plans expansion of its partnership with other community organisations and the Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital. The Gandhi Walk will also be honouring struggle veteran, Mr Laloo Isu Chiba. To become a sponsor, social or community partner, or to be part of the green expo at Gandhi Walk 2018 kindly contact the Gandhi Walk Committee by emailing info@gandhiwalk.org.za
